The Anson County Arts Council presents many worthwhile Projects & Events each year.
|
ACAC Projects & Events include:
The Anson County Arts Council Art & Soul event is an evening of dinner and entertainment dedicated to the cultural diversity of the citizens of Anson County. It is usually held in February and is highly anticipated as one of the finest dinner and entertainment evenings of the year.
Another entertaining evening, our Art Gala and Silent Auction offers musical entertainment and heavy hors d'oeuvres as you bid on artwork and numerous other donated items. Proceeds provide funds for other Arts Council projects and for the Ansonia Theatre Renovation.
You will also want to check out our free Second Sunday Artists Reception. This is a monthly event at which the Arts Council hosts a few of our local and regional artists for an afternoon, offering the community an opportunity to meet area artists and see some of the great work they do. Each reception features a variety of art forms. Receptions are held at the Arts Council gallery or in various towns throughout the county from 2:30 to 4:30, with light refreshments provided.
During summer months, a monthly Bach's Lunch provides a delicious box lunch (of course) with local entertainment. This hour-long event is the place to be for good food, enjoyable entertainment, and great conversation.
Our fall Bowling for the Arts offers a homemade chili lunch with all the fixin's along with your choice of a beautiful pottery bowl made by a local artisan.
Please, come join us, have fun, and support the mission of the Anson County Arts Council, which is to enrich the cultural lives of the people in Anson County by nurturing and supporting excellence in the arts, promoting, presenting and encouraging educational activities, and increasing the community's overall awareness and appreciation of the arts.

School Projects
The Arts Council is very active in our county's public schools, providing plays by traveling theatre companies as well as visits by nationally known poets, writers, and storytellers and hands-on workshops by local artists. Activities from poetry writing to computer animation, from mask-making to digital photography, from furniture decorating to holiday wreath-making with materials students collect from the Pee Dee Wildlife Refuge are provided as part of our quest to enhance the education of Anson County's school children by letting all students experience the arts. The Council provides an "art experience" two or three times each week during the school year at both the Middle School and the High School. In April, the Council sponsors the Student Art Crawl in uptown Wadesboro, featuring the artwork and performances of Anson County's students.
The Arts Council also offers opportunities for local students to develop skills related to the world of work. Students in the Anson Early College Internship Program and the Early College Job Shadowing Program work with board members to observe firsthand an organization related to their career interests, exposing them to the world of work (and volunteering) and the day-to-day responsibilities at the Council office. Students from the New Tech High School economics class have learned firsthand about the business aspects of running an organization by designing and implementing a project to fit within the Council's budget.
