ACAC Programs
Art is a universal language and the arts are for everyone. The Arts Council brings a wide variety of artists and art forms to Anson County, striving to enrich the cultural life of our community.
The Arts Council provides programs that include theater, music, dance, visual arts, creative writing, poetry, art exhibits, special events and festivals. Opportunities are offered to everyone in our county. Children are a priority with special emphasis placed on in-school programming, enabling us to reach all students.
The Anson County Arts Council's partnerships with the Anson County Schools and South Piedmont Community College enable us to provide programs, residencies and summer activities. Other community groups with which we partner are Uptown Wadesboro, Inc., Pee Dee National Wildlife Refuge, Hampton B. Allen Library, Anson County Writer's Club, HOLLA! and Anson County Partnership for Children.

Grassroots
The North Carolina Grassroots Program has enabled us to establish several arts organizations, including the Anson County Writers' Club, Anson Memory Makers Quilters' Guild and the Burnsville Learning Center. Through the years, the council has funded many organizations and groups that promote art in the community for the good of all its citizens.

The Arts Council is very active in our county's public schools, providing plays by traveling theatre companies as well as visits by nationally known poets, writers, and storytellers and hands-on workshops by local and regional artists.
Activities from poetry writing to computer animation, from mask-making to digital photography, from furniture decorating to holiday wreath-making with materials students collect from the Pee Dee Wildlife Refuge are provided as part of our quest to enhance the education of Anson County's school children by letting all students experience the arts. The Council provides an "art experience" each week during the school year at both the Middle School and the High School.
In May, the Council sponsors the Student Art Crawl in uptown Wadesboro, featuring the artwork and performances of Anson County's students. The Arts Council also offers opportunities for local students to develop skills related to the world of work. Students in the Anson Early College Internship Program and the Early College Job Shadowing Program work with board members to observe firsthand an organization related to their career interests, exposing them to the world of work (and volunteering) and the day-to-day responsibilities at the Council office. Students from the New Tech High School economics class have learned firsthand about the business aspects of running an organization by designing and implementing a project to fit within the Council's budget.

Art Gala and Auction - offers live musical entertainment and heavy hors d'oeuvres as you bid on artwork and numerous other donated items. Proceeds provide funds for Arts Council projects and administration.

Sunday Artists Receptions - free events featuring a few of our local and regional visual and decorative artists for an afternoon, offering the community an opportunity to meet area artists and see some of the great work they do. Each reception features a variety of art forms. Receptions are generally held at Olde Mill Gallery at the Lockhart-Taylor Center, 514 N. Washington St., Wadesboro from 2:30 to 4:30, with light refreshments provided.
Bach's Lunches - provide a delicious box lunch (of course) with local performing artists during the summer months. This hour-long event is the place to be for good food, enjoyable live entertainment, and great conversation.
Bowling for the Arts - offers a homemade chili lunch with all the fixin's along with your choice of a beautiful pottery bowl made by a local artisan.
